WHAT
IS ARCHICAD?
ARCHICAD
is the leading Building Information Modeling (BIM) software application
used by architects, designers, engineers and builders to professionally design,
document and collaborate on building projects.
Building
information modelling (BIM) is a process involving the generation and
management of digital representations of physical and functional
characteristics of places. Building information models (BIMs) are files
(often but not always in proprietary formats and containing proprietary data)
which can be extracted, exchanged or networked to support decision-making
regarding a building or other built asset. Current BIM software is used by
individuals, businesses and government agencies who plan, design, construct,
operate and maintain diverse physical infrastructures, such as water, refuse,
electricity, gas, communication utilities, roads, bridges, ports, tunnels, e.t.c.
A wide range of software
applications are integrated in ARCHICAD to cover most of the design needs of an
architectural office:
2D CAD Software
: Drawing tools
for creating accurate and detailed technical drawings.
3D Modeling Software — A 3D CAD interface specially
developed for architects capable of creating various kind of building forms
Architectural Rendering and Visualization
Software : A high performance
rendering tool to produce photo-realistic pictures or videos
Desktop Publishing Software: With similar features to
mainstream DTP software to compose printed materials using technical drawings
pixel-based images and texts
Document Management Tool : A central data storage server
with remote access, versioning tool with backup and restore features
Building Information Modeling Software: Not just a collection of the
above-mentioned applications with an integrated user interface but a novel
approach to building design called BIM.
WHO
NEED ARCHICAD?
1. Quantity
Surveyor: The role of the
professional quantity surveyor is to provide information with regard to the
initial and future costs so that sound financial factors – inter
alia – are considered by the design team. ArchiCAD provides the following for a Quantity surveyor:
- Provide fast, effective and efficient quantity take-off and cost estimation.
- Produce reliable and accurate quantities as well as competitive cost estimates.
- Auto computation of calculations reduces human errors.
- Generate cost estimation reports categorized according to areas, blocks, concrete grades, subcontractor and other relevant reports and this increases the speed of deliverables.
- Improve visualisation of the elements/items for measurement and minimise omissions.
- Hand over project to another party more quickly and reduce double handling.
- Enhance communication and collaboration amongst team members. Improve cost database management which reduces loss of information.
2. Building
Technologist: A
building technologist design, plan and supervise a construction projects. In
order to do so effectively, there is great need for them to understand the
architectural plan of the building or projects under construction. With
ArchiCAD, building technologist can easily design, interpret and detect errors
from a building plan.
3. Architect: We don’t need to discuss in
details the reason why an architect need ArchiCAD. From the name its implies that it is an Architectural Software.
4. Engineers: For complete construction of a building,
the following categories of Engineers are needed namely: Civil Engineers,
Mechanical Engineers and Electrical Engineers. ArchiCAD which is a BIM software
enables the engineers to carry out their role effectively, efficiently and easily.
